Afuega’l Pitu is a very ancient cheese made in the valley formed by the rivers Nalon and Narcea.
In Austrian dialect the name translates to “sets fire to your gullet”! Made from raw cow’s milk these artisinal handmade gems are truly one of the great Spanish treasures from the Asturias. They have a rustic appearance almost looking like a small sack and each weighs about 1 pound. It’s very intense sharpness will certainly wake your tongue up and you will feel the sting. Tremendous nutty flavor, firm bite and distinguishing grassy aroma. Enjoy with country crusty bread, pork products and sweet fruits.
